The sortie into footwear was started in late 1972 when Keith Williamson was introduced to a small factory in Northamptonshire making ladies casual suede shoes. The small purchase that he made was sold within the week and the adventure had begun. In early 1973, ably assisted by his brother Derek, the company was formed and further suppliers sourced. Originally trade was conducted from local market stalls and party plan and two years later a double fronted shop was purchased in their home town of Cheadle. Operating keen prices and a self service plan the shop was an immediate success with people actually queuing on a Saturday morning for the doors to open. A second shop was opened in Stoke-on-Trent one year later.

The original concept was for more shops and a small warehouse was rented to facilitate the future stock required for this expansion. However it was decided to make the warehouse work and Derek started to supply local shops on a cash and carry basis. Such was the success that within two years land was purchased in Cheadle and a custom made warehouse erected. The company was soon to arrive at a crossroads, both sides of the business doing well was stretching the finances and the hard decision was taken to abandon the retail and concentrate on the wholesale side. By this time shoes were being sourced from Italy and Portugal and the Brand name of Country Jack was introduced. This was later to be followed by Capollini, CJ’s and Adesso.

In 2005 the company moved to its current location , a new custom built warehouse in Uttoxeter, complete with offices and showroom. It was also at this time that it introduced perhaps its best known brand Earth Spirit. Now selling shoes in not just the UK but also Europe and Israel the company is exciting looking forward to the next 40 years.
